Too Many Festivals!
May. 4th, 2005 06:04 pmWell, I'm back from Whistler, which means, enough slacking and time to get famous! Well... as famous as you can be having only made a short film.
Of course, this means that I need to do a number of things:
#1) Make numerous copies of my film. Will be making 10 VHS copies tomorrow. Have to figure out how to make stylish labels that still include all necessary information.
#2) Decide which festivals to apply to. Now here's an area I can use some help. My movie is a silly comedy about comic book geeks... kinda like Clerks. I'm thinking that makes it a North American film... but are there any other countries out there that I may be missing? Does England, Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Finland, ect. have similar concepts of geekdom? Would they 'get' it? Know of any good festivals around you that I should apply to so you can see my movie?
#3) Fill out applications and include appropriate additional material. Does anyone out there have any insights on press kits? Have any handy hints for writing synopses and biographies? Is there a more polished, professional way to get items to a festival other than throwing them all on a CD? Should I be labeling them a certain way? If they ask for captions, do I put the captions right on the picture, or do I submit a separate file with captions? Also, anybody out there fluent in other languages? 'Cause I have to translate my title for the applications.
#4) Mail said videos and applications around the globe. I will be promising my firstborn to UPS by the end of the week, I'm sure of it.
#5) Cross fingers/pray/find four leaf clovers.
Toronto International Film Festival has already been submitted to (although I'm sure my package looks pretty unprofessional). I should be mailing off to Vancouver International, Cork (Ireland), London Film Festival, and Hamburg Filmfest by the end of the week.

Can anyone translate "Because You Demanded It!" into German?
