Shopping Spree
Sep. 2nd, 2008 02:13 pmI had been growing increasingly frustrated with my wardrobe lately. I hadn't really had a major overhaul since Canada when I lost all my weight, and some of the pieces in my wardrobe were pretty old and worn. (My Umbro gym shorts are probably 20 years old and really, really, look it.)
So, with my $2,000 pay check coming in, I grabbed my mom to act as my second opinion and headed to the outlet mall, where I proceeded to do $250 in damage to my credit card. Which is a lot, but I tend to allow myself 10% of my income to act as fun money, so it really wasn't that bad. I bought 4 tank tops, 2 long sleeved shirts, 2 striped button-downs that actually *fit* me, a zip-up hoodie with a fair-isle pattern on the shoulders, a red trench-coat (for $15!), a faux-wrap long sleeved knit top (super dressy and dramatic for being a knit top), and my splurge item was a cotton top from Guess (!) that looks like a black corset over a pink-striped button-down. It'll probably be dated in a week and a half, but it fits me, it's pretty hot, and I'm kind of in love with it. I usually hate everything about Guess, but I went in out of curiosity and found a bunch of possibilities, including these awesome shoes which were patterned denim and red patent leather, but if I buy one more pair of stilettos, I think I have to turn in my tomboy card and stop watching football.
Anyway, buying these basic pieces allowed me to go through my closet and fill to overflowing a giant trash bag which will be headed to Goodwill today. I have two whole dresser drawers which are suddenly empty and about 20 empty hangers. It was awesome.
Plus, all those hours shopping with my mother has, I think, really given her a comprehensive understanding of what I like and don't like and why, which will help her and my family out at Christmas when they attempt to buy me clothes. (I am such preppie scum. I could have easily dropped a grand in Brooks Brothers.)
